Portraits:
We are used to what is considered typical portraiture, rigidly sitting or standing, looking right at the camera, with what I call the “Olan Mills” smile pasted on your face, you remember that smile right? It’s the one Mom taught you way back when, that you could never get right, and “picture time” stopped being fun? Well, I have news, “picture time” can be fun again, it can be what you want it to be, casual, lighthearted, exciting, and best of all, you. There are so many styles of “portraiture” these days, Classic, Romantic, the Fashion Look, and my favorite, Freeform. I have been a photographer long enough that I can do them all, and depending on the client, their tastes and personality, there is a style that’s right for them. No matter the style, when making a portrait I want to capture the essence of my subject, their personality, who they really are, their “authentic self.” So, smile, don’t smile, don’t look at the camera, or do, especially if it communicates something about you, the only requirement here is that you be yourself and have fun!
